Tensility releases a series of M5 connectors and cable assemblies. The M5 connector configuration with gold plated contacts is ideal for automation, sensor, and wearable applications. Their thread locking mounting style ensures stable electrical connections and it also contributes to the IP67 ingress protection rating for wet environments. The small profile of the M5 connector makes it ideal for tight, space restricted installations. The cable assemblies utilize Tensility’s flexible ISO 10993 biocompatible wire featuring an abrasion and chemical resistant TPU jacket as well as TPU overmolds.
The M5 cable assemblies are available in 2 or 3 conductor round bio-compatible wire with a spiral shield. The jacket diameters are slim and flexible measuring at 2.6 or 2.8 mm. The connectors feature gold plated 3 or 4 pin configurations. The panel mount connectors are available with either PCB or solder cup terminations. The connectors are rated at 60 Vdc 1.0 A. Custom configurations are available and encouraged.

FAQ
When should you use an M5 connector?
Because of its thread coupling mechanism and water resistant IP67 rating, the M5 connector is particularly suited for industrial process controls, instrumentation and automation applications that require miniature sensors and a secure connection.
When should you not to use an M5 connector? (and what do you recommend instead? Push-pull?)
M5 connectors are traditionally used in sensor applications in industrial environments; however, they can be used for data, power or signal transmission in a vast array of applications. There is also a panel mount version available.
Push-pull connectors would be a good alternative to use when a secure mating system is required in a less harsh, non-industrial environment where water or dust contacting the connector is not a concern. A good example would be a medical device or instrumentation in a clean environment where intermittent connectivity would be catastrophic.
What is the IEC M5 standard?
Are M5 connectors waterproof?
They are water-resistant. The IP67 rating means the connector can be submerged in a body of water up to 1m deep for 30 minutes without damage. It is also dust tight and provides complete protection against harmful contact.
Are M5 connectors resistant to fluids other than water?
The IP67 rating is strictly for water and dust. There is no guarantee for other fluids and solids.
